Austria’s Schönbrunner Perlen return with a new single from local talent Lupo
who delivers three sterling new tracks backed with remixes from Denis Yashin,
Ken Hayakawa & Roman Rauch… Vienna based Schönbrunner Perlen launched at
the beginning of 2012 with a view to representing local talent and bringing
it to the world stage. Named after the cities Fifth district, the imprint
has become a beacon for the quality electronic music in its short history
to date. Releases from Denis Yashin, label boss Ken Hayakawa and Oberst &
Buchner have been well received picking up support from the likes of Huxley,
6th BoroughProject, Joe Goddard, James Teej etc.

Now the label returns with its forth release, this time co-opting the production
talents of local artist Dominic Plainer aka Lupo. Plainer has previously
released on Jhruza Records as a solo act as well as having recorded as part of
Fuxblut on the Great Stuff label.

The ‘Piece of Love’ EP opens with the title track, a deliciously warm and inviting
piece of slo-mo house music that blends deep bass tones with emotive pads and a
brilliantly simple piano line to create something truly special. Next up Lupo joins
forces with vocalist Laura Lek Mun for the wonderful ‘Look at Me’, a deep, techy
workout that provides an understated yet highly effective backing for the ethereal
vocals on offer. The last of the three original tracks sees Lupo pair up with Julian
Hruza for ‘Empty Bottles’, a dark and spacious production that is a real gem.

The first of the remixes sees label favorite Denis Yashin rework ‘Look at Me’ into
a bubbling and soulful house cut build around a killer bassline, some standout
instrumentation and Laura Lek Mun’s outstanding vocal. Next up label boss Ken Hayakawa
gets to grips with the same track turning in a version that journeys into the realms
off kilter electronica meets house music with a wonderful arrangement that builds
slowly and with real intensity. Finally ‘Empty Bottles’ get a ‘refix’ from the excellent
Roman Rauch whose version is a masterclass in shuffling deep house excellence,
quality stuff. ‘Piece of Love’ is another solid step from this extremely promising
label who are certainly one to watch in 2013.
